2009 Bordeaux Futures
We went to Bordeaux in the latter part of March and the first part of April. To say the weather was terrible would be an understatement, but that turned out to be just one of our concerns. More than the cold and rain, however, was the anticipation of tasting the highly touted 2009s. Would 2009 Bordeaux live up to all this hoop-la? We would soon find out. Our Favorite
La Cattura
This wine epitomizes the meaning of "Super Tuscans". It is made with 85% Teroldego, a grape from Trentino Alto Aldige in northern Italy and 15% Syrah. Grown in the experimental vineyard at Poggio al Casone, it is probably one of the most interesting wines we have tasted in a long time. La Cattura means capture in English and most often refers to the trapping of the huge hares that populate the vineyards in this part of Italy. Surprisingly, this wine will go much better with pasta with a red sauce than it would with rabbit. It has soft tannins, noticeable oak from the aging, loads of ripe, red fruit and is bright, ruby purple in color.
If you can force yourself to wait and let it breathe for awhile, this wine will only get better and better. Usually, though, by this time, the wine will have disappeared. A remarkable wine at a remarkable price, this is well worth a try.
