Tillman Meritage
California has strict rules regarding the usage of the term "Meritage". First, you must belong to the "Meritage Society". More importantly, however, the wine can only use the five Bordeaux varietals in its' blend. (Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Malbec). This wine is more Bordeaux-like than any California wine we have tried. In a blind taste test, it was even identified as a Bordeaux by an experienced taster.
This wine has an excellent fruit to acid balance with soft tannins lying underneath. It has a long finish. Try this wine with any red meat dish, especially those cooked on the grill. It would also be excellent with big cheeses. Try it after dinner with a dessert of anything chocolate. It would be fun, too, to invite your friends over for a blind tasting and have them guess where the wine came from. We'll bet no one guesses correctly.
