Haywood Los Chamizal Zinfandel
The Haywood Estate has long been known in Sonoma County as one of the premier Zinfandel producers in California. It was founded in 1980 and now comprises 35 acres of grapes in three different vineyard plots. This classic Zinfandel is made from fruit grown on the fractured terraces of the Los Chamizal vineyards on Mayacamas Mountain. This vintage was one that produced wines of elegance and a nice concentration of fruit. It was aged for thirteen months in both American and French oak, giving the wine a creamy touch on the mid-palate, leading to a long, smooth finish.
This is a big wine, lush and rich, and will be best when paired with hearty stews or game. An osso-buco would be an ideal match, especially if it were prepared with some subtle spices. With warmer temperatures approaching, keep this wine in mind for your outdoor bar-b-ques.
